LG’s New Mouse Doubles as a Scanner

LG has released a new mouse called LSM-100, and it doubles as a fully functioning scanner capable of recognizing characters.

The laser mouse has two buttons and a wheel — but what makes it special is the Smart Scan button on the left side of the mouse. Hold it and the mouse can scan page sizes up to A3 and save them as several file types: PNG, JPEG, TIFF, BMP, PDF and XLS.

Since the LSM-100 is equipped with LG’s Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology, it can also convert scanned text into an editable Microsoft Word document.

LG’s new scanner-mouse was first shown at CES, but it will be properly introduced at this year’s IFA trade show in Berlin, Sept. 2 to 7. The price and availability are unknown at this point.

  1. Neat and useful idea. This is a better idea than the mouse w/ digital scale.

Ok, now I have a question: why now are developers looking to expand on the functionability of the mouse when sales of desktop computers are at an all-time low? I haven’t used a mouse in years. Like everyone else, I use a track pad and/or my fingers (i.e. touchscreens) almost exclusively these days.

  2. nice device. but at least a4 scanning is all I need.

  3. Call me a cynic, but this only strikes me as a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist.

  4. more of trackpad girl than mouse but pretty cool #design

  5. I think people that travel would need one of this mouse scanner. Wireless? No it is not, but the essencial is space and it’s portable.
