Seems like innovation is really going to be coming from mobile devices. Location-Based Social Network is the new hype. I see it like a new and better Twitter, At last it becomes fun and useful to say and share what you are doing and where you are.
It’s all based on checking-in to place you are in and sharing you experience there with your friends. It’s compatible with facebook and twitter so even users that don’t use the app can see you activity. It’s all a bit geeky for the moment but I am sure it will explode very soon. The two companies have made partnership with big brands who obviously saw the marketing potential of such apps.
One exemple who wants a loyalty card, we always loose them, well with those apps you can just reward people who come often to your restaurant for exemple.
I see a butch a location based apps coming in the horizon, it actually got me thinking and loads of ideas came up I will post them soon.
The thing I really like about those apps is that they are fun to use and more your friends use it the better it gets. But I see real potential if it manages to do what google latitude didn’t manage to do, locate your friends! ( by the way the guy from Foursquare Dennis Crowley was taken on board by google and left because they have a “hopeless social media strategy”.
One scenario imagine you have a 4 friends in 4 different clubs and you dunno where to go. Open up the app check where they checked-in look at what they said or even photos ( i hope soon videos) and pick the best place to go to!
