Farmville on iphone

September 27, 2009 in Entertainment, Internet

There’s always a good deal to be done where you can find a good intermediary position.

I also thinking about the fact that the game “farmville” (http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=102452128776&ref=search&sid=743805430.2672672765..1) has more than 50 millions of monthly active users.

If you can get an arrangement with the owners of the game so that they allow you to create a farmville application on iphone, and if you sell it to 2% of the users for 1$ dollar, you would earn 1 million dollar.

50’000’000 * 0.02 * 1 = 1’000’000

If you get it done by freelancers that you can find here: http://www.odesk.com/community/oconomy for example, I think it could cost up to 1’000 dollars.

See him for example: http://www.odesk.com/users/iPhone-Developer-and-Graphic-Designer_~~bd36e1790a09137f?sid=5002&recent=no&tot=608&pos=1#overview

For reaching your break-even point you would need 1’000 buyers in the itunes shop. If you divide it by the number of users of the application, that makes a 0.002% of penetration necessary for your product in order not to lose money.

If you want to scan the market, you could survey the farmville users against some farmville cash. If more than 10’000 say they would dowload it, I think you can do it.

What do you think of it?

  1. OK. I totally get the principle, but it smells like it’s not gonna be so easy. That’s true the business model works well. For example, how much would you have to pay in copyrights the creators of the facebook application Farmville? Also, question: Can’t the people who have an iphone play that game if they go on facebook on their iphone? and if it is not the case, how much longer are we going to wait before they actually can?

  2. There is still no flash player for iphone, but it’s obvious that it is one of apple’s priorities. Well I don’t really believe in this idea myself, the point was more throwing numbers and developing it a bit further that what we usually do. That being said, I posted an idea about having spreadsheets (like excel) on SIB.

  3. Right. That’s true, for that website to have more value than other ideas websites, we should definitely add numbers. However, it is not always simple: when you want to invent a pot that doesn’t get cold, you have no clue about the numbers..

  4. Still, drawings and spreadsheets would be so powerful for expressing ideas.

  5. New update of adobe’s flash program has this option —> EXPORT TO IPA…

that makes it all much easier lol

  7. One might think that Farmville is an inoffensive game, but Zynga, the editor of farmville, mafia wars and cafĂ© world is expected to earn 100 millions in revenues this year! I don’t know what their costs are, but I’m pretty sure that the profits are really high since they just program a few flash games. And some really serious people is involved, like one of paypal co-founder.
